Welcome to the Netherlands

Schenkeveld Schiphol

Have you ever wondered what it is like to leave to work abroad? With the reason that there is little to no work at home. Fortunately, most of us do not have to wonder that, after all, there is plenty of work in the Netherlands. However, in countries like Poland, Moldova and Romania, there isn't. People living in these countries often have to look for work in other countries.

I too left my homeland, Poland, for the Netherlands for work. I found that a difficult decision. It is now 17 years since I left. I'm glad I made this decision. The Netherlands feels like my second homeland, I have had many opportunities to develop myself here. Meanwhile, I have a large circle of friends and acquaintances that make me feel at home; without them, loneliness will strike more quickly.

When you arrive in the Netherlands, it is important that you end up in a pleasant environment and that the right information is shared with you. Some people may suffer from homesickness and uncertainty. The first weeks are therefore also crucial. The employment agency we work with, Stipt, also plays an important role. They have to make sure that everyone can come to the Netherlands safely, all the papers are in order, there is a place to live and all the other little things are also explained, such as where to do your shopping.
After our visit in Moldova, which I wrote about in my previous blog, Leonid left immediately for the Netherlands. He joined Schenkeveld to take care of his family in Moldova. It was nice to see each other again and shake hands. A good reception and a warm welcome is our first priority. Both parties (employer and employee) want to make a good start, a dose of motivation and a positive attitude is already half the battle. We support Leonid where necessary and he receives daily guidance. When this period has gone well, I can look back on it with a satisfied feeling. Meanwhile, Leonid goes to work feeling good, which gives him confidence.

After a month, the training period is complete. As an employee, you now know whether you like the work and whether you want to continue working at Schenkeveld. You get used to your job, become good at it and even achieve bonuses already. After that, you can also grow further. We like employees to learn multiple functions and new operations. When asked if they want to perform other operations, you still often see uncertainty strike: "can I do this?" But that's human. After all, nobody likes so much change in a short period of time.

Schenkeveld likes to look at potential, personal motivation and confidence. Leonid was able to progress directly to a new position. With his perseverance, he is halfway through the second training programme. We are now two months on, Leonid is enjoying himself and making concrete plans for the future. Schenkeveld is open to employees who want to progress. Because, as you might see coming along more often; everything that gets attention grows.

Leonid is one of many examples within our team. Many employees preceded him and have been part of a Schenkeveld team for years. They are therefore an example for all new employees, giving advice and helping you along the way.
