Schenkeveld board expansion

Management

Schenkeveld is a growing company in the Westland, Midden-Delfland and Schiphol region. Two years ago, the merger between Kwekerij de Kabel and Schenkeveld was a step towards steady growth and further development of the organisation. And Schenkeveld continues to grow. In 2021, we will expand at the Schenkeveld Schiphol location. Here, the third greenhouse (Kas Zuid) of 11 hectares will be built this year.

In order to achieve stable but secure growth, we have decided to have Pieter van der Wel, currently Schenkeveld Schiphol location manager, join Schenkeveld's Management Board. He will become Schenkeveld Schiphol's Operations Director from 1 January 2021.

"Joining the management of Schenkeveld is a great step for me. Since childhood, I have been familiar with horticulture and growing tomatoes through my parents' company. The changes in processes and the conversations at the kitchen table, I have experienced them all up close. Several years ago, the choice was made not to continue growing in the parent company. One of the reasons was the high level of scaling-up in greenhouse horticulture. It's great that I can now fulfil this role at Schenkeveld," says Piet van der Wel.

Piet van der Wel made the move from bQurius to Schenkeveld to immediately join the construction team for the Schiphol location. He has been passionately involved in this location from day one and, like the company, Piet has continued to develop in recent years.

Pete is also rejuvenating the board. His horticultural background and his experience in sharpening processes to improve the organisation through data analysis and Power BI, among others, makes him an outlier. He now does this for the Schiphol location, but we also want to use this knowledge for our other locations.

Schenkeveld is blessed with a TOP team, in which talent development is a key component. Growing is one of Schenkeveld's three core values. There are always opportunities for development for both permanent and temporary employees and, last but not least, for the schoolchildren who work at Schenkeveld.

For example, a traineeship has now been set up for starters on the labour market who want to take a good look around at an organisation like Schenkeveld and so we as employees can take a good look at where someone's talents lie. The traineeship gives the opportunity to try out various positions in the company.

Pete is a good example of a go-getter within Schenkeveld, but he is certainly not the only one!
