The head off

Tomato cultivation

The sites with grow lights are going head-to-head again. That means we are already heading towards the end of the growing season. We remove the head of the plant after about 42 weeks so that the plant no longer grows and produces new trusses. The head is the growing point of the plant that makes the plant grow 20 to 25 cm per week. The plant grew 13 metres long from the beginning to the end of the growing season.

Once we take the head out, we can harvest for another seven weeks. Then we will cut the last bunch off the plant. When all bunches have come off, we will remove the plants and have time to clean the greenhouse and prepare it for the new young plants. We call this the crop change.
