A new breed
Tomato cultivation

No two growing seasons are the same and neither is the choice of varieties for the Schiphol location. After gaining positive experience with Provine, this variety was chosen for greenhouse South and West. In the East greenhouse, Ronvine, Provine's brother with high resistance to the Tobamo virus, has been chosen. This season, greenhouse North will go for Grandice, a slightly slower variety with high fruit weight. This gives almost every grower a new variety to talk to and we say goodbye to the now familiar Merlice tomato.
High electricity prices have meant that little to no lighting has been done with traditional SON-T lamps for the past two years. Greenhouse East changed this last year with the arrival of sustainable LED lamps. Preparations for these LED lights are also in full swing in Greenhouse North.
With the arrival of the latest varieties, IIVO climate computer, double screens, air handling units and LED lighting, at least the seeds have been planted for a good harvest.
